Baby Led Weaning VS Spoon feeding

Baby Led Weaning VS Spoon feeding
20 May, 2019

Baby-led weaning (BLW) is a feeding method that allows babies to self-feed solid foods right from the start. Instead of feeding your baby, your baby will self feed soft finger foods or preloaded spoons. It's important to note that every baby is different and there's no "right" or "wrong" way to do it, it's just different ways to approach solid foods and because one method may work well for one family, it may not be the right way for another.

We recommend trying both ways to see what works best for you and your baby. If your baby prefers pureed food, you can still use a baby-led weaning approach by giving your baby pre-loaded spoons to self-feed with.

By letting your baby be in charge of eating your baby practice their independence, hand-eye coordination, chewing and fine motor skills and healthy food choices.
You can do liquids, purees, mashed foods, and finger foods all at once! Combo feeding is a great way to introduce your baby to new textures and tastes.

Purees give your baby practice with swallowing food. Fork mashed and hand-held sticks of soft food can help develop your baby's mouth muscles.

Just like us adults, we regularly consume purees and mashed foods (think soups, yogurt, and applesauce) as part of our normal diet, so giving your baby a combination of foods and textures is completely normal and healthy.

Remember to offer a variety of foods and to always supervise your baby during mealtime.
